I am in the process of putting together a reference book on Pathfinder insignia from all around the world. If you have anything you would like to contribute please contact me. I am looking for dates insignia was authorized, variations, school info and for photos of soldiers wearing the badges. I look forward to hearing from a lot of you. I found your site through an article in American Handgun magazine. I was a Pathfinder while I was with the 7th Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg. The only time I came close to actually doing a combat operations was during Desert Storm. They had three of us on standby to drop in and set up a DZ to air land fuel bladders for the Armor units. At the last minute they were given a number of fuel trucks by the Saudis and we did not have to go. I still remember the training as some of the best and until the day I retired wore my winged torch with pride. I am currently a civilian Criminal Investigator with the US Army and am currently in Kuwait for Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Hi, I am trying to trying to reconstruct my personal military records, following divorce 1988, and because I am trying to reapply to California Army National Guard. Can anyone here provide any contacts, unit orders, etc., regarding the "597th Infantry Detachment (Pathfinders Airborne)", 40th Medium Attack Helicopter Company, California Army National Guard, Stockton, California, during 1983- 1984 ? The Detachment Commander was SSG David Hernandez. I was a Special Forces Airborne Medic assigned with them.

Did PFDR School in late '73. Had a good time. Enjoyed taking off rank & letting E-2s & 3s learn and perform real world duties and relish the responsibilities of command. Classmate Phil Kensinger recently promoted to 3 star. Reggie Salinas retired as E-9. Navy SEAL Terry Davis may still be afloat in the pool at the O-club and "Peter Begonia" is alive and well in California, last known location. I still remember the committee seemed to be a retirement home for 173d Skysoldiers.

Vietnam... March 1969 thru March 1970. I arrived in country with six other green troops right out of Pathfinder school. We were the first Pathfinders ever to be used (as Pathfinders) in the Americanal (23rd Infantry Division) We did get our jump pay, finally. None got kia but we did have two guys wia, medivaced out and sent home, plus one more got a purple heart and stayed in country. It was only 1 year but I still think about it and will never forget about it. Because of this site I found two of my Pathfinder partners. John Mott and Phil Davenport. We had a reunion last May on Memorial Day and it was awesome. The day I left Nam John was medicaled out. I wondered about John for 32 years, he was my main partner. We mostly worked in two man teams and John and I went on alot of missions together. Thanks you for this site.

I was in Viet Nam in 68 and 69. Before being detached to the 3rd Brigade Cav I was with the 1st & 7th Cav for about a month or so. They thought a Pathfinder was a point-man. Every day. Some Pathfinders I ran into in AN Keh had taken my name and serial number and it finally got me transferred to a Pathfinder unit. I was with the 3rd Brigade Cav, 11th Pathfinders, 2nd Team.

MY father, Donald E. Hornby, now deceased, was an 82nd Airborne pathfinder. He never talked much about the war but I know it affected him deeply. I know he participated in the D-day invasion and in Operation Market Garden. In fact we still have two silk maps of Holland that he must have had with him. Did any of you know him? He was not an officer as he was only about 20 years old at the time. He said something about coming in on gliders and protecting radios that guided the planes in. Take care and thanks to you all, Donald V Hornby

I was looking up some information on the net for an associate of mine on his unit in Vietnam (E Company, 75th Rangers) and found a link to this one.
